Reflection for Expository Essay on Puppetry in Child Therapies

The idea of researching on puppets in child therapies never crossed my mind. I chose this topic because it was the one for me that I found more interesting. My expository essay’s main idea was, what is the impact puppets have in child therapies? Doing this expository essay I first saw it as a challenge. I never thought I could have accomplished it. I had to put many parts of the essay together which made me feel overwhelmed. Although all these obstacles were in my way this expository essay allowed me to see what is going on in the real world. It as well prepared on what writing I will start normally doing showing me the variety of writing styles I will get used to when doing other similar assignments.

Doing this expository essay took time. Everything was divided in order to be accomplished properly. Having them in order didn’t confuse me where I was at. What I mostly prioritized from this expository assignment was the sources and expository essay which I took more time on. What we first did was the proposal and the annotated bibliography. What the class and I accomplished first was the proposal allowing me to prioritize more the essay and the source finding. The logic behind prioritizing these two things, the essay and finding sources first was because of time. Searching for sources in the databases with a good amount of time will allow you to find sources that’ll make the essay sound more analytical and critical. Additionally taking your time in the essay will make it sound exemplary. If you don’t take time in the essay it means you procrastinated which will make your essay not be the end product you wanted. I took time searching for sources and doing an essay for it can make sense. Taking time is important because it shows how much work you put in an assignment.

Additionally what I learned that goes beyond what was covered in Professor Adams class was the use of puppets for children. We didn’t really cover the use of puppets for children or how it affects others when it’s in use. Finding sources wasn’t a difficult experience. At first, the proxy didn’t give me access eventually it did. As I was finding sources I pressed on ones that captivated me some didn’t give me the information I wanted and some did. It was stressful but in the end, I found the information I needed. The selection process wasn’t hard because I found five relevant sources that connected very well to my topic in my research essay. The sources had cases, limitations, and visuals that which I put in my essay since these were useful pieces of evidence. In my opinion, due to the library visit, it wasn’t as challenging for me. The benefit of going to the library was activating my card allowing me to access the databases. Additionally, another benefit going to the library was that the lady that gave us tips on how to use the databases showed us how to filter results. Filtering my results accelerated the finding of my sources since it allowed me to display what I wanted.

Moreover, for this assignment, I relied on both new and old approaches. The old approach that I relied on was the format the body paragraphs in the research essay were in. I knew we had to do an introduction, body paragraphs, counterclaim, and a conclusion. The new approaches I relied on in my research essay were the signal phrases and in-text citation. These new approaches allowed my citing to be correctly formatted in MLA format. For my proposal, I relied on the past approaches which were the reflections. I relied on the subjective voice for the proposal. I learned another new approach for the proposal which made assumptions and relevant research questions that connected to the topic. For the annotated bibliography I used the new approaches Professor Ewan taught us and suggested to us. For citing Professor Ewan suggested us to look at page 518 which was very helpful since it gave you the correct citing format. What I did was produce and assemble all of my information. I produced and assembled my proposal, research, and annotated bibliography individually. After I produced and assembled them individually I arranged them all together in order. All of my pieces of evidence connected to my thesis since my thesis discussed a variety of child therapies which were informed through the evidence. My current understanding of MLA code is very good then from previous assignments. I understand the MLA format and how it functions before I needed the guidelines on how it works. The only thing I believe I need to practice more is in the source citation. Source citations involve a variety of things which can be hard to memorize. Throughout the process of doing the expository assignment I have memorized many parts, yet I want it fully memorized not needing to go back to page 518 on the NFG. In the quote integration and in-text citation, I understood what had to be done. I understood that it had to be done in MLA format.

Furthermore how I responded to my peer’s suggestion on my first draft is I found it very useful and helpful because other people might see things you don’t immediately notice. My peer noticed some sentences that didn’t make sense thus letting me look more deeply into my sentences when proofreading. Aswell we also got a peer review for the proposal which was very useful and helpful. My proofreading process took a very long time. I looked at the elements of the essay at different times. I checked for fragments and syntax which I removed. As I was proofreading I had to remove things and reword which was a bit of a challenging for me. I was fixing my grammatical errors as well. My peers helped me a lot allowing me to adopt many of there suggested they gave into my proofreading. They noticed many things I never really liked that which allowed me to begin liking deeper into my essay and how I can proofread it efficiently. The amount of time I took for this essay were approximately 77 hours ago. The reason I took this amount of time was that I was fixing the errors I found in my essay, finding sources took time and lastly writing my research paper.

Although all these obstacles were in my way this expository essay allowed me to see what is going on in the real world. It as well prepared on what writing I will start normally doing showing me the variety of writing styles I will get used to when doing other similar assignments. Throughout the doing of the expository essay, I found the importance of time, the sourcing, and how relevant others point of view can be for our essay. This expository essay allowed me to go in depth of the topics which will be a useful method when writing other papers. This expository was on the impact puppets have on children but it allowed me to evolve in my writing.
